Scottish Interest Group

Victoria University of Wellington Scottish Interest Group

These SCOTS! What have they done?? What are they doing?? ...in Scotland, in New Zealand, in the world??

Come along for a taste of Scotland!

VUWSIG is a friendly group for all interested in all facets of Scottish life - history, culture, etc.  Meetings are held monthly in central Wellington (no university or Scottish connections required).

See this year's programme of events.

Prompted by the Wellington Scottish Festival in 1994, The Victoria University Scottish Interest Group (VUWSIG) was formed at the end of that year.

VUWSIG's aims are:

  1. to provide an opportunity for people to be more aware of and knowledgeable about Scotland"s heritage and to share it
  2. to promote Scottish culture today and thus enrich that of New Zealand
  3. to encourage and establish closer links with Scotland and with Scottish groups in New Zealand and worldwide.

Patron: Ian McKinnon QSO, JP.

Although based in Victoria University, no connection with it or any other tertiary institution is required to be a member - an interest in things Scottish is the only prerequisite.

Read articles on William Speirs Bruce, the Russian Convoy, and pioneering of finger prints, reprinted from the VUWSIG publication "THISTLEDOWN" (samples of the calibre of the talks on the VUWSIG programme).
